We get a lot of questions from our friends here in East Bay about solar panels and whether they're worth it. Today we tackle that topic and more.

One frequently asked question is: "How much money will I save on my energy bill?" According to the experts, at least 50% and as much as 90% of your electricity can be provided by solar. How much you save is dependent on a few variables; whether your home is a good candidate for solar panels depends on the type of roof you have, the shade and trees on your property, and the direction your home is facing.

You have two options if you are considering getting solar panels: leasing and purchasing. Most people (90%) lease their panels - but if you are planning on living in your home for 10-15 years, you should purchase them. The breaking even point is about 8-10 years after purchase, based on monthly cost savings and initial investment.

While solar panels do help provide more value to your home sale, they can be a liability if there is a contract the buyer has to take on. You need to think of an exit strategy, such as buying out the contract yourself and building it into the price of your home.

Still not sure about what's best for you? Give us a call or shoot us an email and schedule a consultation with us. We can put you in contact with local providers, so you can decide if solar is right for you!
