Although the weather never gets too crazy here in the Bay Area during the winter months, there are still some things you can do to ensure your home is protected once the weather gets a bit colder. We put together a short and easy-to-do checklist to make preparing your home a breeze:
  1. Tune up your heating system: Make sure there aren't any carbon monoxide leaks and that your heating system is in good working order prior to using it for the next 4 to 5 months.
  2. Clean your gutters: Check your gutters and make sure they are free of debris and the water runs down nicely. You also want to be sure your gutters are diverting the water at least 3 feet from your foundation.
  3. Turn off exterior faucets: Sitting water can create some cracks in pipes and cause you issues that will cost money down the road.
  4. Mulch your leaves when you mow: Take the bag off your mower and mow over the leaves in your yard until they are about the size of dimes. They will decompose and the ground will absorb them, which is good for the soil and for your grass.
  5. Reverse your ceiling fans: If you can, reverse your ceiling fans. This will push hot air down to help keep your home warm.
As you can see, these are simple things you can do in a short amount of time and they will pay off when the colder months come around. If you have any questions about this or any other real estate topic, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We would love to give you a hand!
