We are back with another edition of the real estate market minute, the fastest 60 seconds in real estate. Today's topic: Is your personality keeping your home from selling?

Everyone has their home decorated a little differently for the holidays, but the fact is, you want to make sure that if you are listing your home for sale, you make things as neutral as possible.

This does not mean that you have to take everything out of your home, but taking personal items and family photographs down will go a long way in impressing potential buyers. They aren't looking for your family's home, they are looking for their family's home.

One thing you may need to address when getting your home ready for sale is paint. Repainting rooms that have blemishes on the wall is important. You want to paint them in neutral, bright colors that bring in natural sunlight.

Another thing you need to do is show rooms how they are supposed to be used. A dining room is not an office, and a garage is not a man cave. If you have rooms that are used non-traditionally, you are going to want to go ahead and convert it back so you know what to do with the property. If it's not used for its intended purpose, fix it.

Finally, it's important to emotionally detach yourself from the property. At this point, selling your home is a financial decision. Detaching yourself from the home will make it easier for other people to picture themselves living in it, which will make the home easier to sell.
